BREAKFAST AROUND THE World

From February 2018 to May 2020, more than 100 students at Harvey Milk participated in our popular morning program, Breakfast Around the World. Each week, students prepared a traditional breakfast dish from a new country. Along the way, we discussed how our lived experiences are both different and similar to others at our school, in our community, and around the world.

We taught the class three mornings a week for 14- to 18-week semesters and welcomed a special staff guest to the table to eat with the chefs every morning. Our community started the day with a hot cup of peppermint tea; actively worked with their hands; and enjoyed a healthy, nourishing meal together all before the start of the regular school day for two beautiful years.

We brought back Breakfast Around the World as a summer day camp in our outdoor kitchen classroom in June 2022, celebrating and preparing the food of a specific continent each day. We hope to offer the program again in the summer of 2024.
